Jupiter - Saltwater Fishing Report

Jupiter Fishing
Sportfishing offshore has slowed considerably over the last several days, but inshore and along the beach has been surprisingly good. An influx of cool green water pushed inshore in recent days, driving out warmer water species such as dolphin and wahoo. Sailfishing has been decent but not spectacular. Not to worry though, kingfish, spanish mackerel, and spinner sharks have been around filled the void.
We caught up with the kings "out front" Jupiter inlet in 70-90’ of water. While some fish were close to 20lbs., most were smaller. Frozen sardines will work, as will trolling a spoon on a planer. At times they have been holding tight to the bottom, so be ready to add some lead if needed. There have been many commercial king fish boats in our area, so setting up a drift can be difficult at times. Remember they have "right of way" over sportfishing boats so stay at of their way. For sailfish work out to 200" in the same areas.
Inshore spanish mackerel, bluefish and jacks have been spread out from Jupiter to Lake Worth around the pier. Pecks Lake, north of Jupiter is a consistent spot catch spanish mackerel . Small colorful jigs see most of the action. I cast out and let it sink to the bottom and then crank as fast as I can with short jerks of the rod tip. Getting jiggy with it! They’ll be all over it. Don’t be afraid to reel too fast. You can’t.
A nice surprise was one day we were off of John McAthur Park north of Palm Beach inlet and found spinner sharks jumping on the surface. We shut down, anchored up and starting chumming with sardines. We had some bluefish in the cooler, filleted them for bait and cast out some lines. It took a while though, we had one hook up and jumped him off after a short fight. It was short lived, but what a rush! They are one cool sportfish.
We did catch several bonitos trolling dorado jigs in 100 feet between Lost Tree and the Juno pier as well.
As I’m finishing this report a report that some dolphin were caught this morning by some boats trolling offshore, so offshore sportfishing off the Palm Beaches should pick up with the easterly winds forecasted this week.
Hope to see you out there!
