Jupiter - Saltwater Fishing Report

Christmas Sails!
Although not politically correct to say the "C" word in fear of offending someone, I’m saying it anyway. Christmas, Christmas, Christmas. Wow, I feel better now.
Sailfish, sailfish, sailfish is the word being shouted from the decks of boats across Palm Beach, Fl. Sailfish are here and have shown up in good numbers. We’ve fished from the Singer Island Condos to a mile or two north of Jupiter Inlet and have caught fish all along the way up. Many days there was a well-defined current edge in approx. 200-220ft but the fish were not on it. We got most of our bites in 130ft or less.
There have been loads of small baitfish over the reef and I believe that is why the fish are holding in tight to the reef. Although there has been a lot of bait out there, most are 2-3 inches and the fish are keying on the smaller baitfish making them a little apprehensive about chasing down a goggle or blue runner.
We’ve observed sails pushing these schools of bait to the surface, a phenomenon known as “balling bait”, in amongst the sails have dolphin, kingfish, bonito, cobia and sharks.
Small sharks have been an annoyance because live bait is now costing $80 a dozen and to have the sharks eat them up sucks when they will readily eat a dead bait thrown there way.
