Jupiter & Palm Beach Offshore Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Rob Mazzei
May 3, 2006
Jupiter - Saltwater Fishing Report

Dolphin Fishing Heats Up!

Dolphin fishing has been the best in recent memory over the last few weeks! Fish to 50lbs. have been caught off Jupiter and Palm Beach Inlets. Our best fish was a 40lbs Bull Dolphin caught by Ralph "Mad Dog" Messina from Staten Island NY. The fish was caught on a live goggle eye fished from the kite We drifted a good rip and color change in approx. 200 feet north east of Jupiter for about 3 hours before we got our bite. Seeing the large dolphin come up under the kite bait made the wait entirely worth it.

We've found fish from 75 feet on out. Anywhere we've found a good condition we found fish.

We haven't really "dolphin fished" per se, we've caught sardines and cigar minnows and fished them where conditions looked favorable. Along the way we've caught sailfish, wahoo, cobia, sharks over 100lbs, king mackerel, amberjack, snapper and all the false albacore(A.K.A Bonito)we could reel in. We're still waiting for the elusive Blackfin Tuna. Several in the 30lbs class have been caught.

Most of the fish we caught were caught drifting live bait. Awesome news is that large schools of baitfish are moving up and down the beach from Palm Beach To north of Jupiter. I heard recent reports the schools of threadfin herring (greenies) are in and around Palm Beach inlet. Of course there have been days when live bait was tough to catch although they were there. On those days, we've drited fresh dead bait and some frozen stuff too.
