Jupiter & Palm Beach Offshore Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Rob Mazzei

Jupiter - Saltwater Fishing Report

Black and Blue!

Even with a blown motor and two computer viruses Sail King Fishing Charters is still going on strong.

Fishing in the North Palm Beach and Jupiter area has been outstanding over the past two months!

Blackfin Tuna and Blue Marlin have been cruising in and out over the drop off from 120 to 220 feet of water.

We caught 4 Blackfins in 2 outings and had an estimated 300-400 pound Blue Marlin on the line for a half hour before she got upset and grey hounded for the horizon. I'm not sure if the Marlin ate a live sardine or a bonito that was already hooked up on a customers line.

What seemed to be a routine fish at first just kept taking line slow ans steady, much like a shark. I fiquired I let my angler get a workout before either the leader broke or we'd chase it down and get a glimpse of our adversary. After about 20 minutes all hell broke loose and she was gone. We did get a short video clip of the Marlin heading for the horizon. The clip will be posted on www.sailking.com for all to witness.

Sailfishing has been good all summer with a couple of slow weeks thrown in.

The "mullet run" has begun, but I have not observed many finger mullet on the beaches. Most of the mullet I've seen along the beach have been larger than the typical 2-4 inches. 6-8 have been most commom. If I'm not offshore I'm surf fishing (my favorite) from Singer Island to Hobe Sound. The Juno area has been busting out with tarpon, snook, sharks, jacks, bluefish and spanish mackerel. Just north of the pier has been explosive in the morning with tarpon in excess of 100lbs cartwheeling in the surf. Although I have not hooked a tarpon yet this season, I have caught snook to 40 inches and jacks to 30lbs right in the "wash" 10 feet from shore. The last several mornings the fish have shown between the "Reef Club" and the Juno pier. Blowing Rocks and Coral Cove on Jupiter Island has had full blown "blitzes" of tarpon and mullet as well. At times I have been the only angler on the school.

I'm running a new boat, a Dusky 256. It's a 28 foot center console with twin 175 Suzuki four-strokes. Two huge live-wells, a 60 gallon and a 50 gallon.

Although I've only had the boat out two times, the boat is awesome and has more seating then the Bluewater.
