Slow Summer Fishing

Capt. Colin Hickey
July 23, 2008
Jupiter - Saltwater Fishing Report

I just got back from Punta Cana. The fishing was alright there but I had to take up an offer to fish with Mejia and Peter down on the Interpido. We fished two days, the first day was a disaster, went 0 for 2 on White Marlin and 0 for 1 on Blues. Then the next fishing day we started off 0 for 2 on White's again, after saying to myself this will be the last time I come to fish with these guys at 5:30 PM we finally got a White hooked and running, or so we thought. After no jump and a fish that wouldn't stop running and running, I was worried there Penn Senator's 9/0's from 1970 wouldn't be able to handle it much more. With just about 50 yards of line left the fish finally stopped running and we bagan chasing it. After about 25-30 minutes of fighting, a beautiful fat wahoo showed his color about 20 ft below the surface. The hoo weighed in at 82.17 pounds and measured 65" (5'5). A beauty.

I have to say I was happy I was gone because since I got back things haven't changed and I didn't expect them to. Bonitos are still dominating the action and the are kings anywhere from 150 ft and less. Bait still appears to be around. From what I understand some are still catching sails on live bait as this long second run continues. I will be getting out a couple times this week with a fresher report.
