Key Biscayne - Saltwater Fishing Report

Cobia Bite
Friday was a classic rough day with some dolphin offshore and a few sailfish on the edge. The only problem was we never made it to the edge or even past catching some live bait. Thank god though we had some pinfish left in the well from the day before. As we sat at bug light catching some sardines I noticied something large drifting inside the light about 200 yards. As I watched I nearly had a heart attack, it was a leather back in 10 ft. of water loaded with cobia. The water was milk and you could only see the ramora's at first, but as the first bait hit the water I knew it was going to be a bananza. 2 hours later after losing and finding the turtle in the milky water we caught 5 lost several due to the rough conditions and released a few. It was assume.
The weekend yielded some nice catches on the edge primarly Sailfish and Dolphin. The fish have been inside of 150 and biting sardines and threadfins. Yesterday was a fantastic day, we fished the Dr. J and the Cutting Edge was also fishing a PM half. Niel on the Edge caught 2 sailfish and some bonito's and had several other shots. On the Dr J we had a mixed bag, a 22 1/2 pound Mutton Snapper, a 30 pound Black Fin tuna, 9 Dolphin, 3 Kingfish, and 3 out of 5 Sailfish. The Mutton was the largest for me in several years. It could be a record on 12 pound test. All the action took place south of Triumph Reef. Some boats did well on Sailfish north of the Light.
