Miami and Key Biscayne – offshore

Capt. Quinton Dieterle
May 13, 2002
Key Biscayne - Saltwater Fishing Report

BAck in Town

I just returned from a trip to the Bahamas and had a great time. We first went to Cat Island which could be good at times but was slow for us. The fishing was not actually bad but the sharks are. We had several shots at small blues but missed them both. We had lots of big Dolphin and a couple of Tuna Bites. The tuna are all in the 80 pound range which means you have to fight for a while to get them in, thats trouble there. The sharks are relentless. They ate all of our tunas 5 to be exact. That hurt!

The island itself stinks! Nothing to do and the couple running it is rude and not hospitable at all. They were as if you were doing them a favor being there. So we proved them wrong and left. I would go to rum cay if I go that direction again. The fishing in rum is said to be better anyways.

We Left and went to Harbor Island and found the fishing to be better. We caught tunas and lots of big Dolphin. A great place if you in that area. On the way home we found Dolphin in the Pocket off Cub Cay. They are all big and lots of them. We caught several in the 25 pound range for lunch. Were big eaters.

Anyways I should have a report for our area in the next couple of days, we are fishing the next couple of weeks strait.
