Miami and Key Biscayne – offshore

Capt. Quinton Dieterle
June 2, 2002
Key Biscayne - Saltwater Fishing Report

Lots of small Dolphin

This week the dolphin moved into the area. Lots of small fish with the occational large bull or cow. We did manage to get our limit all week, but for the most part the fish are small. (2 to 4 pounds)

The large fish have been under the hawks and under floating stuff. We have a few in the twentys this week. The schools of small fish have been anywhere from 150 to 1150 ft. They are moving fast to the north and biting small chunks of bait or small live pilchards. The big fish are moving south and chasing flying fish. Small terns or bonito birds are a sure sign of the smaller fish. On the edge the action is slow, an occational tuna or sail and thats about it. Bait has been slow for the most part but with the small dolphin around you really only need small chunks. This week I would think the dolphin will stay around unless we have a shift in the wind. The weather has been great and the seas calm, a great time to get out and try your luck.

Thanks Q
