Miami and Key Biscayne – offshore

Capt. Quinton Dieterle
January 14, 2003
Key Biscayne - Saltwater Fishing Report

Cobia bite

Today and yesterday were the most fun in a while, we hit the cobia on the sand bars and things went crazy. We spotted the fish moving north and saw a good bunch of small ones and only a couple of keepers. The first big one bit and hit was cool. He jumped and raced all around the boat for about 10 minutes before we caught it. The other big one finally bit but we broke him off trying to turn him in the direction of the ray. All in all we caught 3 keepers the big one a met leader at 47 lbs. We caught and released 5 more smaller fish. The next day we caught 3 keepers but smaller fish, along with around 10 throw backs. Sailfish have been hot on the bite. And the bite is usually late, the last week. We are averaging 2 a trip and seeing more. Some kings and Dolphin are rounding out the rest of the action.

Hope to see you soon!!
