Miami & Key Biscayne

Capt. Joe McGivern
April 24, 2006
Key Biscayne - Saltwater Fishing Report

Typical April Fishing!!

Fishing has been pretty darn good the past 2 weeks. We have had some great days catching plenty of dolphin, kingfish and a few sailfish mixed in. Bait has been pretty decent at bug light and also at the range marker off govt. cut.

This past Sunday 4/23/06 I had the pleasure of fishing with a couple of guys here from the west coast. We caught plenty of bait at bug light and by 2pm we were off to the edge. We ran out to 300ft of water, found a frigate working and pulled a coulpe of nice gaffers off but that was it. We then ran back into about 200ft off of Fowey Light and put the Kites up. We were on a double header before i could get baits out. We chased these 2 sails for about 30 minutes before releasing them both in great condition. We quickly ran back to the south and re-set. This time we had to wait a little while longer but we caught 2 kingfish, 1 bonita, and missed a bottom fish. We bumped back out too 200ft and put the baits back out.

On our next 2 drifts we were definetly in the fish. We caught 5 out of 7 fish some kingfish, 1 blackfin tuna, 2 more bonita, and 1 nice mutton snapper. What a great afternoon trip for these guys. We ended the day going 7-9 on sailfish. It seems like everyone was catching sailfish this weekend. Hopefully the fishing stays great for the next few weeks. Swordfishing has been decent also from what i have herd. I have not been out in a few weeks, but the guys who i know have been going have been gettin 2-3 bites a night. With the full moon coming up the bite should only get better.

I have a few Bahamas trips coming up here in May. We are heading over for the mutton spawn off of Bimini the second week of May. Last year we had some great success over there, hopefully we can make it happen again. I also have West End trip comin up soon, we are looking for late season wahoo and tuna over there. From the reports i have been getting, the tuna and wahoo are still there and they are chomping. If your interested in doing any Bahamas trips this is the season for it. We can catch everything from Snapper-Marlin. I am equipped to fish for anything and everything so give me a call!

Tightlines,

Capt Joe McGivern
