Key Biscayne - Saltwater Fishing Report
Miami Offshore Report
Fishing off Miami the past week has definetly been on and off. On the reef there has been no current, and ugly green water. We have been fishing to the South the past few days, and have found some current and better water. This week i had 2 sailfish trips and 2 swordfish trips. On wednesday we fished off of Pacific Light. We found some good current and decent blue water. We set up our spread and had immediate action. We caught and released bonitas all day long. We had 3 sailfish during the day, and some bottom action. Saturday i fished with Sean and his wife Stacy. Sean was looking for his first sailfish. We loaded the boat with goggs and a mix of pilchards and herring. We made the long run down to fish the elbow. Before I could get the kite put together, the rear flat line went off! Sean was hooked up to his first sailfish! After a quick fight Sean released his first sail. we quickly fired the baits back out. After a short while we caught a few bonitas, and had some cut off's. It was a slow day for us, but we accomplished our goal of catching Sean his first sailfish!
Now on the other hand, the swordfish bite has been great. On Tuesday night I had the chance to fish with Terry Lyons from Mass. We caught some speedo's and runners and off we went to the sword grounds. Right away the shallow rod goes off. As soon as we get tight on her the hooks pull. We quickly send the baits back out and the wait is on. We finished our first drift and ran back to the south. We quickly set up and the 100ft rod goes off. Terry gets tight and 15 minutes later we release a 54" fish. We send all the baits back out and just before the end of the night we hook up again. After a quick fight we boat a 55" and head home. Friday night the wind picked up and there was a nice swell offshore. We set up and the wait is on. We had very little action until about midnight. The shallow rod goes off and we are tight on a nice fish. After about 10 minutes the hook pulls. It was a long slow night out there for us.
This up coming weekend we have the Mayor's Cup Sailfish Tournament. Hopefully the current shows up this week and the bite turns on.Good Luck to all the teams! Until next time!
