1/20/13 Gulf turns on, cobias, tripletails!

Key Largo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Had some regulars out today, Luke and Rich Cromwell. Luke had never caught snook, cobia, or tripletail. Today was his lucky day he got to catch all 3! We caught a couple snook early at the cape on our way out to the gulf casting shrimp on jigs. A small and medium size. Later we hit some structure in the gulf. Not much luck at first stop, continued running the trap lines on our way to another wreck to catch tide change. We found lots of tripletail, luke casted and caught 6 and dad caught 1 letting luke have all the fun. 3 keepers which are dinner tonight! At the wreck we hit it just right, saw a few groups of cobias. Ended up catching 4/5, and also had a goliath eat a live bottom bait but unfortunately missed him and shark ate are bait. The goliath was being picky and not eating just anything you put down... Oh well still a fabulous day, we also did see one permit while tripletailing but he caught us off guard and swam off before we could get a bait to him. We also caught lots of trout including several nice slot size ones on the way home. Fantastic day here fishing key largo!
