Key Largo Reef Fishing Excellent after Hurricane Irma

Capt. Ryan Van Fleet
October 5, 2017
Key Largo - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Key Largo & Tavernier area is rebuilding quickly after Hurricane Irma. On September 27th I ventured out to the reef from my business location at Tavernier Creek Marina. Happy to report that the fish did not blow away in the storm. The ballyhoo and speedos were thick in the chum slick. Caught a few speedos and recycled them into a limit of 3-5lb Yellowtails and Mutton Snappers.

Further out the jumbo Blackfin Tunas are on the humps, but so are the sharks especially at the Islamorada Hump. Best best for large Tunas right now is the 409 Hump.

Do not believe what you read, the Florida Keys is recovering quickly and the fishing is outstanding!

Key Largo Fishing Forecast:

Take advantage of some good fishing in the Florida Keys over the next couple months. We will be getting the live bait and taking advantage of some great Mutton and Grouper fishing. When condtions are right we may do a little wahoo/tuna fishing as well.
The Key Largo cleanup is moving very fast and everyday businesses are re-opening. Support the local business by not canceling your trips to the Keys. Do not believe what the media tells you.

You can visit my website www.floridakeysfishin.com for a list of affordable hotels/motels that are open after Irma. I am doing my best to keep this list updated.
