Key Largo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Reef/Offshore1/30/09-Got out a few times this week on the reef. Fishing with shrimp and cut baits on light tackle was good with mangrove, yellow tails, mutton snapper and hogfish for table fish. For action lots of 3 to 5 lb crevell jacks, mixed in with bar and small amberjacks. Fishing live bait on 20 lb test (ballyhoo and small blue runners) turned up mostly shark, black tips and lemons in the15 to 30 lbs. size range also a few cero macks up to 8 lbs.

This week off north Key Largo there was a ripping current and good blue water right on the reef line. Inside of a mile beyond the reef nice Dolphin and Blackfin tuna were in.Tuna were hitting our flat line lures and the dolphin ate the ballyhoo on the outriggers. In 2 hours of trolling action was decent, ran in to good fish 5 or 6 times and popped Bonita in between dolphin and tuna bites.
Tight lines Capt.Bob
