Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

Winter might be done down here in Key West. The past 4 or 5 days I've watched the water temps climbed up into the 80's on the shallow flats off Key West. The good news for anglers and guides thing have changed drastically over the last week in regard to the flats fishing. Seems like the bonefish, permit and tarpon have stormed the shallows. It's been a long winter for fish as well as guides.
I'm seeing great numbers of bonefish. Seems like more and more each year. About 15 years ago I noticed a declining number of bonefish each year. Seemed like less and less for several years. Well, at this point, I believe we have a growing population. The last five years I've seen larger schools of fish. Maybe not all the big 10 lb. bonefish, however, a fish is a fish. And anyone who knows the saltwater flats can attest....... Bonefish, permit and tarpon all pull extremely hard.

Shallow water flats fishing with a fly pole or light spin tackle you can have a heck of a fun day.
Catch fish & have fun.
