Fall Bonefish and Permit Action Heats Up!

Capt. Dexter Simmons
September 19, 2009
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Fishing Report. Sept. 19, 2009. There are schools of Bonefish and Permit on the flats this week in the wake of the biggest tides of the year due to the Sept. 18 new moon and the lunar perigee causing "perigean spring tides". At least a foot of extra water has been rushing onto the flats on the flood tide. Early morning low tides in the
backcountry are especially productive for tailing and schooling Bonefish and Permit as they are motivated by the increased current from the extra water flow. By the time the tides are at mid-flood you will find the fish in higher tide flats. Here is a nice Bonefish taken on the lunar perigee.

Permit have been showing in good size pods on the incoming tides as well. Here is a good size Permit taken on the Perigean Spring Tide.

During the early mornings we are also getting shots at resident or baby Tarpon to complete the grand slam fishing. Here is a baby Tarpon in the air! The fall run of large trophy Bonefish should extend through October and early November. This is the time to land a bonefish of a lifetime, so take advantage of it!!!
