Time For A Grand Slam On The Flats Off Key West, Florida.

Capt. Lenny Leonard
April 14, 2014
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

The wind, waves, and air temperatures are setting up for an epic tarpon season on the flats around Key West, Fl.

Key West has received a mild cold front every 6 or 8 days from mid March to mid April. Unfortunately these fronts seems to completely sabotage the fishing for a day or two.
Then on the rebound the permit, bonefish and tarpon are pouring back onto the shallow flats.

Permit, most guides say they say they go to the wrecks and spawn during the month of April.
This might be true, however, I'm still finding a steady supply on most days when I go and look for those allusive fish.

Tarpon, they are here and definitely psyched to eat a well place fly or other random artificial baits. Lots of resident fish bouncing in and out of the channels and flats surrounding Key West.

Bonefish, now that fish is not quite as predictable these days. However, they're out there roaming the waters in search of shrimp. Not the larger numbers of bonefish which we find in July or August. But still offering hope for an angler to cast or even get a capture on some days.

Come flats fishing in Key West, Florida.
