Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report
Water Conditions:
OFFSHORE: Temperature: 74 degrees.
Color and Clarity: Blue green, visibility 50 feet
REEF: Temperature: 74 degrees.
Color and Clarity: Greenish blue with a visibility less than 30 feet
INSHORE: Temperature: 70 degrees.
Color and Clarity: Muddy with low visibility in Hawks Channel.
GULF: Temperature: 69 degrees.
Color and Clarity: Off-color near shore. No reports further out.
FISHING REPORT:
OFFSHORE: The Gulfstream remains well to the south and the blue water predators seem to know that it is not here. Sailfish, blackfin tuna, wahoo and bonito have been scattered and only those willing to travel have been finding any. Kingfish have been the exception, however they have been on the small side.
REEF: Yellowtail snapper have been fair along the reef. The real action has been with the bottom dwellers. Red and mutton snapper fishing has been good and full bag limits of the former have been the norm. The reds have been averaging in the teens and some of the muttons have topped the 20-pound mark. Red, black and gag groupers have been in good supply, however scamp grouper have held the spot light with full bag limits for most anglers pursuing these tasty critters.
INSHORE: Small Ciro mackerel continue to dominate the inshore action, as the water clears, you can expect the action to pick up for other gamesters such as large permit.
GULF OF MEXICO: With the high winds, there have been no reports from the gulf.
FLATS: With the water temperature again falling below the 70-degree mark, expect the shallow water to come to a standstill until the water warms again.
That’s it for now. Tight lines and good fishing. Captain Ralph Delph
