FISHING REPORT:
OFFSHORE: The Gulfstream remains well to the south with a pocket of only moderately clean water with mediocre fishing. Sailfish have been scattered as well as blackfin tuna and wahoo. The main action has been with dolphin and bonito. The dolphin have been running around the 10 to 15 pound range with some smaller and some larger. Small sharks have been driving the offshore, live bait boats crazy. The bottom fishing has slowed as well, however some nice catches of red snapper and some nice size black grouper have hit the docks recently.
REEF: Yellowtail snapper have been only fair along the reef. The black groupers are still gathering below the yellowtails and fish in the 30# range are still common.
INSHORE: Permit are now common around the wrecks and are responding well to crabs. They should be active on jigs and flies soon.
GULF OF MEXICO: The wrecks have been producing cobia and the permit. Jewfish are still plentiful and the mangrove action has slowed.
FLATS: With water temperatures in the high 70’s and into the 80’s, the flats action is well underway with permit, bonefish. The tarpon migration has not started here in the lower keys as yet, however you may expect that to pick up with the next movement of big tides over the next week.
That’s it for now. Tight lines and good fishing.
Captain Ralph Delph
