Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report
Winter Angling in the Keys
The last week has seen some BIG BARRACUDA caught along the patch reefs. There have been some Permit showing on the edges of the flats and channels, but it has been a bit spotty. We are anxiously awaiting a
"January thaw", as cold temperatures have invaded the Keys during the past week. The major flats species (aka "the big three") Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit like water temperatures in the 70's and 80's, with 78-88 considered as
"ideal". Right now the water temps on the flats are in the 60's, forcing most anglers to settle for Barracuda, Shark, Jack Crevalle, Snapper and an occasional Cobia. We are hoping that more Cobia show in the near future, as they fight hard and
are excellent on the BBQ. Snapper and Cobia are the only fish that we keep for the table because they are tasty and plentiful, all the others are released to protect the species. I have just launched a new web page that is linked to this one entitled "Women Fly Fishing in Key West Paradise". For those interested in checking out some great catches by lady fly fishers,

The fishing should continue to be great for the time being. Here is an image of a fly fisher that is on the new "Women Fly Fishing in Key West" page.Dawna landed this Tarpon in February, 1997! Before you
travel to the Keys, call
