Key West and Lower Keys

Capt. Dexter Simmons
April 10, 2002
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

Winds Howl

With brisk winds (20-30 knots) the water has turned into milk in most areas of the Keys during the past three days. The winds are supposed to subside during the weekend, and the Tarpon should move back into the Atlantic and Gulf flats. In the meantime, we are finding Bonefish in the leeward edges of Mangrove Islands where the water is relatively clean.A few Permit are still showing around channel edges and patch reefs, and that action should continue, though the big schools are off in deeper water spawning. Now is a good time to plan a summer fishing trip! Our Father-Son Key West Flats Fishing Camps are scheduled for late June, July, August and September. For more information about the Father and Son Flats Fishing Camps go to http://www.keywestflyfishing.com You may contact Capt. Dexter Simmons for a future fishing charter by telephone at 305-745-3304 or by email at [email protected]
