Key West and Lower Keys

Capt. Dexter Simmons
February 13, 2000
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

Warming Trend Means Tailing Permit!

With a warming trend sweeping over the Keys, the fish turn on with a vengeance! For the past two days the fishing has been slow in the cool morning air, only to bust loose in the afternoon when the water warms to 70 degrees or more. We caught two nice Bonefish with Cecilia Baker and her man Bob during the mid afternoon yesterday. There are also lots of Permit showing along with Barracuda, Shark and Jack Crevalle. As it warms this weekend to the high 70's, we'll be looking for the Tarpon to turn on again in the channels. Late February and March is the best time to stalk the most prized species on fly: Permit. March is also great for early Tarpon, migrating in from deep water. There are also Bonefish available, Jack Crevalle, Mutton Snapper, Barracuda, Shark and possibly Cobia. Before you travel to the Keys, call Capt. Dexter Simmons for a live report 305-745-3304. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels!
