Summer is here

Capt. Richard Houde
June 8, 2018
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

After a cool spring and a very rainy May, June has brought Key West more typical summer weather. Clear skies and calm seas are allowing the boats to venture offshore in search of Mahi, (Dolphin). Catches have been mixed, but most days the charter fleet are able to put a good catch together for their customers. A few Wahoo and Black Fin Tuna being caught in the mix. Not as many Billfish, Sailfish, Blue and White Marlin around as one would expect. May was FANTASTIC for Sailfish which is unusual. April is normally the "best" month for sailfish. We had a tremoundous east current in May, which contributed to the good sailfish run no doubt. We earned each sailfish as strong east and Southeast winds caused seas to run from 4-8 ft most days.
Winds have dropped of dramatically and Current is still running strong, but not as strong, but the sailfish have slowed down. Snapper fishing has been good as the calm seas and east current make fishing the reef relatively easy.
