Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

Still chasing large or small silver items on the flats each day.
The bonefishing has been super this past weeks. Finding lots of schools on the flats. I've been guiding fly fisherman, however, fishing with a buck tail jig on a spin pole works just fine too.
Permit fishing has been pretty exciting on the flats. Not a huge number of them, but enough to keep you on your toes an offering up some shots. These fish are tricky in slick calm water. Staying focused and being patient is a key to success with these shallow water fish.
Tarpon fishing is still quite good on the flats. Early morning seems to be the trick for tarpon fishing this week. I have definitely noticed a decrease in overall number of tarpon swimming around the flats. This is quite standard for early July. As peak migration has pushed them future north up the coast of Florida. That being said, with a little work and strategy you can still find them swimming on the flats.
