Tarpon Season Key West

Capt. Lenny Leonard
July 1, 2017
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's been a crazy year for weather down here in Key West.

Never ending wind out on the flats! Despite the uncooperative weather the tarpon fishing has been spectacular. As the case with most fishing and most definitely flats fishing, this great fishing does not always come easy. You have to put in the time to get the results.

Although it's quite late in the season I am still happy to report there are still tarpon migrating on the flats around the Lower Florida Keys.

I spent a couple of tides chasing bonefish and permit this past week and I'm happy to report those fish are swimming in good abundance. By July, I will be transitioning away from exclusive tarpon fishing to permit and bonefish.

I'm looking forward to a fun summer of guiding.
