Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tarpon Are Bustin' Loose!
We usually start seeing the first few LARGE Tarpon that show up on their migratory track in the Marathon area around Feb. 1st. or so. This year, the Tarpon action has been getting better and better the past couple of weeks. The past two days qualify as "Bustin' Loose"!! Last night several boats were out Tarpon fishing and they sure were rewarded for their efforts. Capt. Randy Rode who docks next to me was out last night and hooked 7 Tarpon and had several in the 100+lb. Range. Capt. Jeff Napp who also sails from my marina also had great action last night. This morning one boat had a double header of 100lb. fish, getting a release on one and had several others hooked up. I will be going tomorrow and Saturday for Tarpon (it's been hard to drag myself away from the Sailfish and Kings!) and will give you another report after that. Looks to be a great Tarpon season shaping up here off of Marathon! There are already tons of Mullet around, which the Tarpon gorge themselves on once they get here. Plenty of food usually means plenty of fish! The calm seas the past couple of days along with the warm weather has really heated up the action. It will only get better the next few weeks and months so dust off your Tarpon gear, the "Silver King" has arrived!
