Marathon, Florida Keys

Capt. Bob Brown

Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sailfish & Blackfins

The Sailfish action off of Marathon and the middle Keys has been excellent lately with lots of fish being hooked up and caught in the Sombrero Reef area. The bite has been anywhere from 100-200 ft. of water but the 120ft range has been hot the past two days. Live baits have been doing the trick on getting the Sails to eat with Ballyhoo, Pilchards and Blue Runners being top baits. A nice surprise lately has been some good numbers of decent sized Blackfin Tuna hanging around the 150-250ft areas!! We had 6 nice Tuna ranging from 12-20lb one day last week and had several other nice Tuna on other trips. Nice catches of Dolphin and a few Wahoo have been coming in from offshore weedlines anywhere from 7 to 15 miles out. Be sure to run that one bait down deep to entice the Wahoo and don't forget the wire leader! The weather looks to be holding for some great offshore fishing in the next couple weeks so get out there and enjoy it! For more info on fishing in the Marathon and middle Keys area, check out our website. Good luck in all of your fishing adventures!
