Marathon, Florida Keys

Capt. Bob Brown
January 25, 2002
Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Muttons & Yellowtail

The reef fishing has been excellent lately with nice catches of Yellowtail Snapper hitting the docks all over the middle Keys. Also inhabiting the reef edge lately has been good numbers of King Mackerel with some topping the scales at 30lb.+. Some of the deep wrecks Oceanside have been producing some large Mutton Snappers up to 20lb and some nice sized Amberjack and African Pompano. On a recent rip we landed 5 nice Muttons up to 20lb and released seven Amberjack in the 30-40lb range. A few large Black Grouper have also been caught from the deep reef in 40-90ft. of water and some large Kings have been coming in from Hawk's channel near Bahia Honda Key. The weather looks to be holding for some great offshore fishing in the next couple weeks so get out there and enjoy it! For more info on fishing in the Marathon and middle Keys area, check out our website. Good luck in all of your fishing adventures!
