Marathon, Florida Keys

Capt. Bob Brown
June 1, 2002
Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Bayside Bonanza!

Great Snapper fishing has been going on in Florida Bay off of Marathon and the middle Keys lately with a few nice Trout and some large sharks to shake up the action. Mangrove Snapper up to 5 lb. have been the norm lately near the banks off of East Bahia Honda Key and near long bank. Some large Black Tips, Lemon and Bull Sharks have been hanging around the banks and other backwater areas like "The Box" and the 7 mile bridge.

Tarpon have been biting good also at Bahia Honda bridge and the other middle Keys bridges. Casting large plugs after dark or fishing blue crabs on the outgoing tide has been producing best lately.

Big Dolphin have been out there offshore but breezy conditions lately have kept many anglers at the dock or fishing snapper in the bay. Some of the boats that have been going out in the rough seas have been rewarded with boxes full of nice Dolphin with a few Blackfin Tuna around also. Best for Dolphin has been 13-20 miles offshore under the birds and debris. Good luck in all of your fishing adventures!!

Capt. Bob Brown, Jr.
