Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Offshore Bite is ON!
Good offshore fishing has been happening all summer off of Marathon and the middle Keys with some good catches of Dolphin, Wahoo, Tuna, and a few Marlin and Swordfish being reported recently. Some nice Dolphin of up to 70lb. have been taken offshore of Sombrero Light and up to Tennessee Light. A few Marlin have been hooked up and caught also off of the "Wall" and near the humps 20-30 miles offshore. Tuna and Wahoo have been showing up as well mostly near the rips and offshore of the West hump. Night time has been good for Swords and some good numbers of fish have been hanging around near the Wall and the area about 6 miles SW of the west hump.
Inshore bite a bit hectic
Inshore fishing has taken a bit of a hit because of the lobster mini season that has been happening in the area. Lots of boats in the channels, reefs, and backwaters have been combing the bottom in search of the spiny lobster and lots of fishing areas have been covered up with dive boats. Beware also of dive boats towing along snorklers behind the boats as they search for lobster. Sometimes divers drop off the tow line and are swimming quite a ways behind the boat. Look for flats fishing to be good for Bonefish and Permit with a few Tarpon around also. Good bayside wreck fishing is also going on and could be a good bet to escape the inshore madness.
Good luck in all of your fishing adventures!
