Marathon, Florida Keys

Capt. Bob Brown

Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sailfish Season Kicks In!

November ushers in the beginning of the Sailfish season in south Florida and the Keys and this week some Sails were showing up around the area. Monday, after some good reef action on Yellowtail Snapper and Cero Mackerel, we decided to throw out a few live baits to see if any Sails were around and in the first five minutes we were hooked up to a nice 50lb fish! Several other charter boats in the area have caught three or four Sailfish in a day of fishing and the numbers should only improve as November wears on and December rolls around. Yellowtail snapper fishing has been excellent on the reef lately and good numbers of Mangrove Snapper and Grouper have been coming in from the patch reefs as well.

Cobia in the Bay

Some nice Cobia have been hitting the docks the past few days from boats fishing the Florida bay wrecks. Some fish up to 45lb have been around but most fish have been near legal size of 33" to the fork in the tail. This action should improve as winter moves in. Good Spanish Mackerel action has also been reported from out in FL Bay.
