Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Tarpon Bustin loose
The Tarpon action at the 7 mile bridge and other keys bridges has heated up lately with some good numbers of fish showing up and some great catches of Tarpon up to 170lb by captains at the 7 mile marina. The other morning, I had 10yr old angler Max Hermanson of MA., and he bravely fought a 130lb Tarpon for an hour before getting him to the boat. At the end, the fish still had enough left to scream off a bunch of line and make a 10ft. leap in the air as we released him. Great Tarpon action has been happening at Bahia bridge just west of Marathon also and good reports from Long Key and Tom's Harbor bridges have been coming in. Look for the hot tarpon action to continue on into late June as the season kicks into higb gear now through then.
Dolphin Slow
Surprisingly this past week has seen some Dolphin coming in but not in the usual late April fashion. Some boats were out as far as 27 miles several days this week only to find very few fish coming through. Look for that to change any day now as the big slammer Mahis start to show up offshore of Marathon. A week or so ago good numbers of school fish were around, but lately the bite has been off. A few Sailfish and Cobia have been aournd however as offshore fishermen have been pleasantly surprised with some Sails when trolling for Dolphin. Look for Dolphin to improve this week along with some Wahoo on the offshore scene. For more info on fishing in the Marathon and middle Florida keys, check out our web site!
Good luck in all your fishing adventures!
