Marathon, Florida Keys

Capt. Bob Brown

Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tarpon Hot

The Tarpon bite is on in Marathon and the middle Keys with some great action being had by anglers at the famous 7 mile bridge right here next to the 7 mile marina. We had a 100lb fish on this morning before a fantastic leap caused the hook to pop out and the fish swam away. Also yesterday we hooked 6 big tarpon up to 130lb. The action has also been hot at other area bridges including Bahia Honda, Vaca Cut, Long Key and Tom's Harbor. The Tarpon bite should continue to be great for the next couple months so get in on the action NOW! Best baits have been live blue crabs, Mullet, Pinfish, Pilchards, and plug fishing in the dark.

Dolphin Coming back in

The Dolphin action has been hot here off the middle Keys for the past month, but the bite has been farther offshore than normal due to the big NW winds we had last week pushing the gulfsream out as far as 36 miles south of Marathon. As of yesterday, the stream was only 19 mile out and some big Dolphin were hitting the docks again here at the 7 mile marina in Marathon. Some fish in the 40lb class have been around lately along with some big Wahoo and a few Marlin. Capt Chris Moran out of our Marina caught a 225lb Blue about a week ago and some others have been reported being hooked up offshore this week. Blackfin tuna have been on the bite out at the Marathon hump but the windy weather has kept most boats from venturing that far offshore.

Yellowtail Snapper Biting

Reef fishing has been fantastic this week and we have had some excellent catches of Yellowtail Snapper hitting the docks along with some big Black Grouper. Some big bull sharks have also been playing havoc on the Grouper and Snapper but the bite has been consistantly good this week. Bring your shark pole along if you are going Yellowtailing this week....

Good luck in all your fishing adventures!

Capt Bob Brown, Jr
