Marathon, Florida Keys

Capt. Bob Brown
May 31, 2007
Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tarpon Time

The tarpon bite at the Keys bridges off of Marathon and the middle Keys has been great lately with some schools of fish starting to migrate up the shorelines off of Marathon on the ocean side. There have been some nice sized fish biting at the 7 mile and Bahia Honda bridges with the best action on the outgoing tides with blue crabs and mullet as the best baits. The night bite has been great with some of the fish biting black flies and lures. Some snook action has also been reported off of the Long Key bridge along wit the good tarpon bite that has been the norm there. The smaller bridges have been producing also. Tom's harbor bridges on either side of Duck Key have had some good tarpon action lately as has Vaca Cut. Lots of great night bite action lately so if you want to avoid the hot sun, try some evening and night tarpon, snook and shark fishing!

Dolphin Time

Some nice schools of Dolphin have been found lately offshore of Marathon and Big Pine Key from 12 -25 miles from shore. Look for the fish to be under dipping gulls or Frigate birds. There has also been some debris around teh 'ups and downs' and there have been a few wahoo around debris as well. Look for the fishing to continue to be great throughout the early summer for nice size Dolphin.

Good luck in all your fishing adventures!

Capt Bob Brown, Jr.
