Marathon, Florida Keys

Capt. Bob Brown

Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Offhsore

Big Dolphin are still hanging around the middle Keys as was proved last week when my Dad's neighbor Tom Wammack of Grassy Key caught a 46lb Bull that won the annual firefighters tournament. There were lots of other nice sized fish caught, mostly from pretty far offshore; 20-28 miles. There have been some nice Tuna out there as well and a Wahoo or two showing up in the mix. Look under moving and dipping birds along with frigate birds. Floating debris is always a good bet to toss a live bait to and hook up a large Mahi or Wahoo. Marlin have also been here and there on the offshore scene and several Keys charter captains have been doing some daytime Swordfishing with good success. Lots of great offshore action has been going on off of Marathon and the middle keys so don't miss out and get down here while the bite is on!

Mutton Snapper have still been biting well on the wrecks and reef edge with nice fish up to 24lb coming to the docks at the 7 mile marina lately. Yellowtail snapper have kept the reef bite active along with big Mangrove snapper. Best time to target the reef critters is around dawn, dusk or in the dark...

Some nice tarpon are still hangin around the 7 mile bridge & Bahia Honda bridge, along with some resident fish in the 20-50lb class hanging around the beaches and bridges. Some migrating fish will be moving up the coasts so keep your eye peeled and your blue crab ready when looking for traveling Tarpon this time of year.

Look for the action to be hot along with the temperatures the next couple weeks.
