Marathon, Florida Keys

Capt. Bob Brown

Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Nite Bite - Day Bite

Well the Swordfish in the Florida Keys have been long known as a night time target and most anglers going after them have been going out at dusk. Until recently.... lots of keys captains have been going swordfishing in the daytime, and have been very successful. Night might still be the best time to catch a sword, but there have been some good catches in daylight and that has more and more people looking into catching them. Some locals have been fishing the areas of the wall south of Marathon where there might be a slight point in the ledge that drops to the deepest depths of Florida Straits. Dropping squids down as much as 1500ft with breakaway leads and then drifting down the edge of the wall has been the technique that has evolved into the hot ticket lately. The area is Key and may take some research, or if you are lucky enough to know someone who has done it, or someone with some numbers to certain zones that they have been hanging out in, then you can head out to your target area. The bite has been surprisingly good all summer and lots of anglers have been rewarded with the catch of a lifetime out on the wild blue of the gulfstream. If you want more info on keys fishing please check out our web site.

Good luck in all your fishing adventures!

Capt Bob Brown, Jr
