Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Beat the Heat!
Most of the charter boats in the Marathon area lately have been running night trips for snapper with great success. The reef bite for big Mutton Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Grouper, etc. is excellent lately and almost everyone is beating the heat by fishing at night. The trips have been going out from about 6-10PM or 7-11 and the bite has been good. Nice sized Mangroves have been hitting the docks the past few days and customers have been all smiles. The offshore fishing has been good at night when the weather has allowed anglers to get out to the Swordfish grounds. Some Swordfish of up to 500lb have been hooked up, but most landed have been in the 100-150lb class. Look for the night action to continue to be great thoughout the warmest month of the year.
Dolphin fishing has been spotty but good at times. Most boats targeting Dolphin have been running out 17-27 miles and looking for moving birds. There have been a few large fish in the 30+ range along with some schools of smaller fish. Best bet it to stop into the local tackle shops and see what happened yesterday.
