Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Swords in the Daytime!

The daytime bite on swordfish off of Marathon and the middle Keys continues to be good for anglers deciding to go that far offshore and having the know how to do the job. Mostly charter boats have been venturing out after swords and are using night time techniques but fishing in the daylight and having good success. Plus some surprises like big Blue Marlin and Mako Sharks have been reported to be hooked up as well. Fishing deep on edges of the wall which is located about 30 miles off of Marathon has been the area and rigged squids fished at varied depths have been the ticket for baits along with a few assorted live baits like big blue runners or goggle eyes. If you are considering the catch of a lifetime of a big swordfish, this may be your time of year! I do anticipate this being a year round thing, but for now we know it is happening this time of year....

Some large Dolphin and Wahoo have been hitting the docks here in Marathon as well. Nice mutton snappers have been coming in from the reef edge and some Sailfish are starting to show off the reef as well. Sailfish season is just around the corner so get primed for a hot sailfish season here off of Marathon. Look for the bite to be hot from mid Nov. through April in the Flroida Keys area.

Good luck in all your fishing adventures! For more info on keys fishing check our web site.
