Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing these past few weeks has been as good as it gets. Redfish, snook , and trout have been cooperative almost every day.
We have had lots of double digit days this past month with redfish. I have been getting them using popping corks and shrimp. There were a few days when bait was available on the beach. They came in handy as shrimp are over $4 a dozen and a man has to keep expenses down. Most fish can be found around oyster bars and banks with oyster outcrops. And most fish are in the slot limit. I have been catching average size snook and larger trout in these areas as well.
We just got our first real cold snap and I struggles to find the numbers of fish. I started to catch sheepshead along some of these banks so that gave me a good sign that winter is really here. I changed tactics and started deep dropping into some of the rivers and holes with chunks of shrimp and split shot yesterday. We caught our limit of redfish in fifteen minutes!. Some nice sheepshead and trout rounded out the bag. We are supposed to get a nasty cold front this week so I think we will settle into using this method until things warm up if they do. Trout is open and there are some bluefish and mackerel inj the mix as well. Winter fishing has been killer this year. It is the best I can remember in years. Give me a call.
