Report for Naples, Marco Island and the Ten Thousand Islands

Capt. Matt Hoover
October 30, 2001
Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

In Between

As the weekend rolled in, so did the cool air and heavy winds that are associated with a cold front. Temperatures dropped to the fifties over night. I was able to catch more bait of Saturday. We caught redfish and snook with no problem. As predicted, the bite slowed dramatically in the following days. It has not stopped blowing all week.

In spite of the cool air, heavy wind and occasional drizzle, anglers and guides have been able to go out and catch a few fish. Coves stay protected from wing in the islands will harbor bait. We have been catching fish in deeper runs. One thing about heavy wind is that it will dictate where you can fish.

This cold front is stalling over the Florida peninsula. There is a high-pressure cell trying to push it out of the way. When that happens, we will enjoy some sunny weather for several days to follow. The key is to keep that water temperature up. I for one am not ready for winter fishing tactics.

The large schools of bait should stay with us. As long as that happens, fishing should remain excellent. I think that the next week should produce some fine catches. Fronts will start to come like clockwork so get your fishing down in between them. I will see you on the water.
