Report for Naples, Marco Island and the Ten Thousand Islands

Capt. Matt Hoover
January 18, 2008
Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Can't Complain

This past week before the latest front hit went surprisingly well. The water temperature dipped to the mid to upper sixties, but we still caught a decent mix of fish.

I was able to procure some live sardines all week before the big blow. Throwing baits to the bushes was a little slow. We were catching a few redfish, the occasional snook, and assorted jacks. I started pitching bait around the docks of Marco where the water is a little deeper. We started catching some very nice snook. A few docks were holding redfish as well. Super size jacks and the occasional Goliath Grouper would come out and hit the baits as well.

I trip into the islands yielded some legal trout too. They seem to be running hot and cold. I have been getting my trout on Don’s Jigs or Hybrids. All in all, we have had a mild winter and the fishing has been excellent. I like it that we are still catching some very nice snook so late into winter. We’ll see what the aftermath of this passing cold front brings us. I’ll see you on the water.
