Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report
I know that it has been awhile. I did the Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament in Jamaica. My mom lives there and we do that tourney every year. We won our division this year with 2 marlin releases.
I have spent the better part of the last three weeks dismantling and repainting our little Slo- Poke fly fishing boat with my co owner Captain Stacy Mullendore. This boat is one of only ten that were ever built. The mold was made off of a 15 ft Willy Roberts. The new Willy acquired the molds and is now building new ones, but ours is an original. He is named Pinocchio because most of us fishermen are ……um…..liars.
This past week I got to take him out right after the cold front and my client Shin Abe caught 8 snook. He lost six more as well. That is not bad considering it was cold and blowing pretty hard.
Fishing prior to the front was excellent. Snook and redfish were chewing live baits at about every turn. Bonita and mackerel were all over the place near shore and provided plenty of action. Tarpon of all sizes were in the mix as well. This activity is not uncommon as the fall bait migration happens about now.
With the front having gone through, it is already starting to warm up nicely and the action will resume. We are starting to get busy with Thanksgiving on its way. Give me a call to get a trip booked. I'll see you on the water.
Target Species:
snook, redfish, trout, tarpon
