Winter Bonus

Capt. Matt Hoover
February 5, 2015
Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing during the winter months this year has been surprisingly good. We have only had a few cold snaps that have brought the water temperature below 70 and into the 60s.
we have mainly been beating the shorelines for redfish and snook using popping corks with live shrimp. We have been catching small to medium snook and redfish on almost every outing. This time of year the black drum move in along with the sheepshead and we have been catching those as well.
Trout move in and the larger ones like to hang out where snook do so they have been a bonus when you aren't actively seeking them.
When the water temps drop, I have been fishing deeper with chunks of shrimp and have been catching sheepshead and black drum with the occasional redfish. We have also been using shrimp tipped jigs for trout and pompano in the deeper runs and hard bottom and have been catching our fair share.
Mild winters in Florida are bonus months. soon we will be rounding the corner into spring. The days are booking fast. Give us a call.
