December fishing is Great!
Despite red tide being in the area fishing is pretty darn good and impacts have been minimal. I have been fishing in Pine Island Sound, Matlacha and North side of Charlotte Harbor. I've seen minimal dead fish mostly bait fish. So get out and go have some fun. If you run through a bad area just go a little further and get in good water.
With the cooler water temps sheepshead and snapper are the go to species. Just find structure and get some shrimp on your hook. Over the last couple weeks I have been on Bull Reds, Pompano, Snook, Gator trout and sheepshead. And all have been caught on shrimp. Last time I threw my net was 3 weeks ago and wasn't worth it since everything only hit shrimp.
As the water temps keep getting cooler the shrimp will be getting bigger at bait shops and the snapper and sheepshead will be coming in bigger.
