Matlacha - Saltwater Fishing Report

12 May 2019
Spring and great fishing!
Sorry I haven't reported in quite a while. I have been so busy having a banner year fishing with clients and now I just slowed down dramatically now that season is over. As far as fishing is concerned IT'S GREAT! Monster snook, bull reds, sharks, 14-16 snappers, Tarpon etc.. Catch the tides and have some fun.
Tarpon I haven't targeted as much as I would like to as my clients are wanting fish to eat lately. On the days I do get to have fun with clients and target tarpon by chance on the way to another area I am using the Big threadfins that are abundant everywhere. My clients have hooked up but failed to get them to the boat after the first jump. Almost every time while others break off fighting too hard for the gear.
Snook BIG SNOOK are staging up and headed for the passes but I'm still on them in the back country. Still using threadfins and I will start with the largest threadies and work my way downsizing until they bite. But mostly the Biggins have been getting tore up.
Red drum have been not targeted much by me this season but they are out there. 30"+ using cut threadies or pins or mullet soaking them on the flats on higher tides or next to the mangroves.
Mangrove snapper are about the only fish to eat right now so when I do get on them using shrimp or smaller threadies I catch a few at each spot and move on to another so I don't ruin a good spot.
My report of 2 May 2016 is almost identical to what I wanted to write for this other than I haven't been fishing pine island sound. Check it out if you want other information about this time of year. The wind's are going to be picking up as the season changes so be safe out there.
Check out and like my Facebook https://www.facebook.com/jimbocharters/ and Instagram #jimboscharters page for recent pictures and trips. If you're ready to go fishing give me a call to plan your trip so we can try and catch the tides right. If you're a Disabled/ Retired Veteran or first responder I have discounts for you. I'm also on Facebook at Jimbo's Charters where I post pictures if my clients let me and my website www.Jimboscharters.com and my You tube channel I am slowly building https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGhDg-V7oR-ex6W-5ztwLAQ
Also, if you see me out there say Hi. I am a friendly guy that likes to help. Just don't ask for a pin point location, but I will tell you what I am catching fish on.
