Reds looking for warmer waters

Matlacha - Saltwater Fishing Report

29 Nov 2014
Reds looking for warm water today. Headed out today on my friends boat and Founder of Wounded Warrior Anglers Organization, David Souders and bringing along Disabled Veteran and WWA member Daniel. This morning we decided to buy bait since I really didn't want to get wet cast netting at 7:00 a.m. at 48 degrees. Bought our bait from Jim at Seven Seas Bait and Tackle in Matlacha hoping he gave us the Pin fish that were willing to die trying for the cause. Heading out on a tip the fish were searching for were towards the North end of Bokeelia we took off in search. With the morning water temps at 56 degrees not much was moving about besides the dolphins (porpoise for the politically correct). We decided to head out on the flats in the main channel looking for pockets of warmer water the sun may be heating up faster than others. Finally after a couple hours of testing we found the mullet starting to school and soon after that the reds were doing the same. We ended up finding a school of around 50-80 warming up and on a feeding frenzy. We tossed some cut bait at first and they hit after an hour of that they stopped so we switched to live Pins and that did the trick the fighting was back on for another hour and a half.
With the colder water the Redfish bite was very soft. They would hit and have several minutes of light bites before they would try and move the bait. After 2-3 light pulls then they would take off with it and setting the hook on themselves.
Tight Lines
If you're ready to go fishing give me a call to plan your trip so we can try and catch the tides right. As I do cater to the Veteran community, if you're a Veteran with proof I have the best prices around and I guarantee it. My Charter business is by word of mouth only or by my fishing reports calling in.
