Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
The afternoon/evening combo trip with Bob and Charlie started off on the slow side. Once the wind picked up a little, things changed very quickly.
The X-Light kite was flying with one bait on it. We saw several sailfish free jumping in line with us and to the north. In a few minutes the kite bait got nervous and a sailfish found it. Charlie was hooked up. The Penn International 16VSX outfit worked like a charm and in a few trips around the boat his sailfish was released.
Shortly thereafter, a flat line bait went off. The sailfish came up jumping and thrashing and threw the hook. Not to worry, within minutes, another flat line rod hooked up solid to a sailfish and Bob had his sailfish on using a Penn Spinfisher V 6500 with 12# line. His sailfish came alongside for a few pictures before being released.
The bottom rod produced a small mutton snapper for Charlie and it wasn't long before it was time to switch tackle and start the evening tarpon portion of the trip.
A couple of drifts at the Inlet produced no action. We moved into the bay and found the tarpon. The first two fish threw the hook on their first jumps. Bob hooked up solid on the third fish and after a hard short fight the tarpon was released.
With a few minutes left in the trip, Charlie hooked up solid and his fish also fought hard before coming along boat side and making on final jump before we released it.
Final tally offshore, 2 for 3 on sailfish and a mutton snapper. Tarpon action was 2 for 4.
