Bent Rods of Summer

Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
With temperatures in the mid to low 90's summer is definitely here. But as the temperature heats up the rods continue to bend on a myriad of different species.
The usual summertime cast of characters is here in full swing. Let's start with the false albacore or bonitos as we call them here in South Florida. They are a great fighting fish that will tire you out with their never say die attitude. We are catching so many that at times we have to move to try and find other species of fish to catch and catching a dozen or more of these fish is not uncommon. The kingfish are also here. We have been catching several of these fish on the edge. The kings range anywhere from 10-30 pounds. They are mixed in with the bonitos.
Offshore the mahi fishing has been very hit or miss. You seem to run offshore and maybe catch a couple of fish. The mahi should show up soon enough so stay tuned.
Offshore in the past two weeks we caught cobias of 49, 38, and 32 pounds. There seems to be a small run going on of cobia due to the fact that I have heard of some being caught in the same general area.
On Saturday I fished with Rob West and three of his friends from England. We started off catching a couple of bonitos right off the bat. A little while later we added a kingfish to the box. By the end of the day we would have a 32 and 38 pound cobia, 2 kingfish and we lost count of the bonitos. What was an 8 hour trip turned into 6 as my anglers were exhausted and we headed back to Keystone Point marina.
There is plenty of action to be had. Start early and fish hard and you should have a nice mixed bag by the end of the day. Give me a call and let's set something up. I am all booked up this weekend but do have days available next week.
Till next time
Best of Luck…
