Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
It's that time of the year when the weather is warm and kids are headed back to school. So what's happening on the water??? One way to beat the heat is to head out in the afternoon in search of snapper. Mangrove and yellowtail snapper rule the shallow reefs this time of the year. During this spawn mangroves in excess of five pounds aren't uncommon. The smaller yellowtails help to fill in the gaps as well as the bag limit of ten snapper per person. Snapper fishing with light spinning tackle is great for anglers of all ages and skill levels.
Larger members of the snapper family will be running the show over some of the deeper reefs, wrecks, and ledges. No member of the snapper clan can turn heads like the giant cubera snapper. Cubera's look a lot like mangroves, only bigger, a lot bigger. Most are caught drift fishing at night using live lobster or blue crabs for bait.
We can't talk about bruiser snapper with mentioning Mutton snapper. Mutton are still around and most are being caught on deep baits fished near structure.
On recent trips we've also caught bonito, hammerhead sharks, barracudas, jacks, and some kings. So if you're ready to get out give me a call and we'll set it up. The boat was just repowered with a pair of Mercury four strokes and is ready to go.
Till next time,
Capt. Orlando Muniz
