Crazy Days

Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Boy! Do I get around!

I started the year with a fishing trip to Fellsmere Florida. Abie Raymond and I fished with Shane Porcell. We hammered the bass up to 6 pounds. I even caught a double header on one hook. It was a bass and a big gar!

We stayed at Mike Arnoldy's fish camp and he invited me to sneak out for another day on the Headwaters compound. While our first day was all giant wild shiners, Mike and I fished all lures. We had some very interesting catches and educational talks about bass fishing. It was a great day!

From there I headed for Bud and Mary's in Islamorada. There Pat Mansell had arranged a day with Richard, Sara and Nick Stanczk aboard Broadminded. Ken Spaulding and a couple more great people joined us.

We had a special day. We caught queen snapper and my first ever barrel fish on Hooker Electric reels. But even better, we caught numerous tuna on vertical jigs and the mate and I hand cranked barrel fish on light tackle!

Next it was back to Miami to celebrate Pat Aizpuru's birthday with his bro, Rick and Capt Abie Raymond. We caught a wide variety of fish off Haulover Inlet. Yellowtail snapper and small amberjacks offered up great action after a great start catching snook and margates.

The next two days were a blur with snook, peacock bass, largemouth bass, cyclids and a clown knife fish.

The next day was a repeat with another long time friend, Brooke Baldwin. Once again the freshwater variety was mind blowing.

After a few days back at home in Marietta, I headed to Panacea Florida to join Gary and Linda Hall. We fished with Panacea Guide Service and caught loads of redfish. We fished numerous bridges and caught lots of sea trout to 22 inches, sheepshead and redfish. Old Florida is a beautiful venue for a few days or more.

Back home and then a day 60 miles offshore of Murrells Inlet SC. We had great action with a 41 pound wahoo, a bunch of 15-20 pound blackfin tuna, bonitos, barracudas and 3 amberjacks. That was a long day put together by my good friends David and Chris.

I stopped off in Melbourne Florida for a couple of days. Regina put me on some very hungry jacks and bluefish that loved surface plug. Regina showed me some huge snook. But, those snook were too smart to bite our hooks.

Till next time, tight lines.
